Virginio Quaglini had his MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1995 and his PhD degree in Structural Engineering in 2001. He is presently Associate Professor in Structural Analysis and Design and tenured professor at the School of Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction Engineering at Politecnico di Milano.
His current research is focused on the conceptual design, testing and modeling of base isolation and energy dissipation systems for seismic protection of buildings and structures, and the study of bearings for constructions.
He has been Third Party Reviewer for bearings and anti-seismic devices for several projects in Italy and abroad, among which there the elastomeric bearings of Riyadh Metro and Dubai Metro viaducts, the improvement of Dubai Marina Bridges and the antiseismic bearings of the Third Bosporus Bridge in Istanbul.
He has taken part, as Italian delegate, to committees for European standardization on structural bearings, anti-seismic devices and road expansion joints.
