Virginio Quaglini

Virginio Quaglini had his MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1995 and his PhD degree in Structural Engineering in 2001. He is presently Associate Professor in Structural Analysis and Design and tenured professor at the School of Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction Engineering at Politecnico di Milano.
His current research is focused on the conceptual design, testing and modeling of base isolation and energy dissipation systems for seismic protection of buildings and structures, and the study of bearings for constructions.
He has been Third Party Reviewer for bearings and anti-seismic devices for several projects in Italy and abroad, among which there the elastomeric bearings of Riyadh Metro and Dubai Metro viaducts, the improvement of Dubai Marina Bridges and the antiseismic bearings of the Third Bosporus Bridge in Istanbul.
He has taken part, as Italian delegate, to committees for European standardization on structural bearings, anti-seismic devices and road expansion joints.

Certification and auditing of steel products

Testing services

The Lab is one of the official laboratories that perform sampling and testing services for steel manufacturers in accordance with Italian legislation (L. 1086/1971 and D.P.R. n. 380/2001). The main activity focuses on the execution and certification of tests used for mechanical characterization of construction steels (steel used in normal and prestressed reinforced concrete and steel for structural elements). The Lab continuously inspects and performs quality control checks for several steel producers in Italy throughout Europe and in other non-European countries.

Auditing services

Auditing and certification of structural steel production in agreement with the Italian Technical Standard for Constructions.

Certification services

Notified Body (CPR-1777) as Factory Production Control (FPC) Certification Body for steel products in accordance with harmonised standard EN 10025-1 – CE marking of construction products – Regulation (EU) 305/2011 (CPR).
